From brief to finished film.

How we told the story of the world’s oldest literary charity.

01 · The brief

Celebrate a long history, briefly

The Royal Literary Fund wanted to mark a milestone anniversary with a film that told its story, and showed the extraordinary range of writers it has helped, in a few minutes.

03 · The outcome

A history that feels alive

A 3 min 35 sec film that brings the RLF’s history and the writers behind it to life, closing on the Fund’s book-tree. Shared across online, digital and social channels.

02 · Our approach

A book-tree timeline

We built the film as a timeline that grows from the RLF’s book-tree illustration, moving through the Fund’s history with archive portraits, letters and photographs set into frames, branches and even a hot-air balloon, all set to music.
